Cleaning Your Dentures/Implant Dentures

Here are our recommendations for cleaning your dentures or implant dentures…

  • Rinse your dentures after meals removing food remnants from their under-surfaces.
  • Cleaning your dentures each day with a denture brush over a basin /sink partly filled with water or covered with a wet face-cloth / tea-towel. This is to prevent breakage if dropped. Do not clean dentures in the shower, also in case you drop them!
  • Mechanical cleaning of dentures done 2-3 times daily with a denture brush and dishwashing liquid, followed by toothpaste.
  • Chemical cleaning of dentures is done at night – remove your dentures and place them in a container on your choice with water, together with a Steradent or Polident tablet or powder. Do this once or twice a week for 10 minutes for light stains and for heavier stains for 20 minutes. For more stubborn staining, soak the dentures every night with the Steradent or Polident cleanser tablet or powder.
  • Chemical cleaning can also be done each night using household bleach (3 tablespoons of Janola® into 2 cups of water) for 10 minutes only.
  • Dentures should be stored in plain water in a container of your choice after cleaning and before going to bed at night.
  • Mouthrinses like Savacol or Listerine are also useful to rinse your mouth at night after removing the dentures. Massage your gums with a facecloth and brush the top of tongue daily with a soft toothbrush or electric toothbrush to remove food remnants that can cause bad breath.

Testimonials

Thank you so much Alan, Lesa and Yvonne for being so friendly, kind, gentle and for genuinely caring about me and making my smile perfect. The whole experience was explained thoroughly before, during and after which put my mind at ease a lot. During the procedures of receiving my 5 crowns you were always asking if I was OK and if I was in a little pain you would top up the numbing without hesitation. You made the whole experience so much easier and more comfortable than I could have ever imagined. Now I can finally smile with confidence – I am so very grateful. You guys are one awesome team!!!
